XMail 3.5

Monday 27 February 2006, by Jean-Baptiste Le Stang

There is finally no 3.3 release but a 3.5 release instead due to massive changes to the source code to remove all c++ dependencies because I’m about to port XMail to Windows CE for an embedded project I’m working on. This work allowed me to decrease the size of the osax from 1Mo to nearly 300 Ko. I’ve also added two new authentication schemes APOP ond POP3 which are now being used more and more by ISP to avoid spam, and IMHO, this is a very good idea. The project has also been compiled as a Universal Binary allowing you to run the osax natively on both PowerPC and Intel powered computer.

If you’re a regular user of XMail please consider buying a licence of XMail that will give you life support for XMail, you can do it on kagi’s web store , it’s a US$ 10 licence (or 8.5 euros without VAT).

Thoose who are downloading the source might want to know that in order to create a Universal Binary of XMail, I had to make an universal binary of PCRE, the library I use for Unicode regular expressions, this library has been integrated in the project so that you do not have to download it and compile it yourself.

  • In the source code file "mail.c", around line 281, is this line:

    appendString(&str,"X-Mailer: XMail 3.2\r\n");

    Should the line say "XMail 3.5"?

    I discovered this while trying to send email to multiple recipients, and it just won’t work for me. Can you give an example script using multiple addresses in the "TO" parameter?

    Merci, ivar
